On April 15th, Family Service announced that the Stevick Senior Center will be moving to Family Service.
Bringing the Stevick Center to Family Service will make it more convenient and accessible to older adults in Champaign County. It will also transform Family Service into a true one-stop-shop for seniors. The advantages of this move are numerous.
The project is a huge undertaking. Family Service will be remodeling a wing of its building to create a space that older adults can use for socialization, support, and education.
We're asking for your help to get this accomplished. Any amount helps with the construction and operation of the new center.
You can watch this page for updates. We're excited to share our progress with the community.
Below is our first press release announcing the move:
Family Service—Serving Champaign, Douglas, and Piatt Counties April 15, 2025
Champaign County, IL – The Stevick Senior Center is moving to Family Service’s main office at 405 South State in Champaign. The date of the grand opening will be announced at a later date.
Moving the Stevick Center to Family Service will create a central location in the county for seniors to gather for education / seminars, socializing, and support.
The Stevick Senior Center has always been the home of both the Senior Volunteer program and Food for Seniors. The Senior Volunteer program currently has over 400 members and provided over 60,000 hours of community service in 2024. Food for Seniors is a food insecurity program that delivers groceries to seniors twice a month. Both the Senior Volunteers and Food for Seniors will also be relocated to Family Service’s State Street location.
“Our goal is to make things as convenient as possible for seniors in our community. We want to make Family Service a one-stop-shop that has something to offer every older adult,” said Nicole Dowling, CEO of Family Service.
Seniors who visit the new Stevick Senior Center at Family Service will have access in the building to both Aging Services Navigation (helping seniors access resources to make independent living easier) and Senior Mental Health / Reducing Social Isolation services.
Traci Nally, Board President of the Helen Stevick Center, commented, “The Stevick Senior Center has been an institution in Champaign County for decades. By moving it to Family Service, it will be more centrally located, more easily accessible, more versatile, and more inclusive.”
The work to create the center at Family Service is underway. Champaign County residents who would like to contribute to the project can visit FamServCC.org/support-stevick.
